Following in the footsteps of their beloved grandmother, three Mexican-American sisters take an adventure through Mexico to complete a traditional pilgrimage and repair their relationship.
Three sisters reunite after a long time apart to retrace the path walked by their beloved grandmother in Mexico. Starting from Guadalajara, they begin a traditional pilgrimage. Maria, the sister who came up with the idea, wants to complete the walk because she’s searching for a miracle – she has been diagnosed with cancer. Sofia, the sex-crazed sister, and Lucia, who has recently quit her job as a lawyer, do not get on with each other. This is the journey that might finally be able to heal all wounds.
Built as a road movie on foot, where strange encounters affect the sisters individually and as a group, this reminds the viewer of films such as The Way (Emilio Estevez, 2010) with Martin Sheen and A Walk in the Woods (Ken Kwapis, 2015) with Robert Redford. Most poignantly, the girls gain the trust and friendship of Kin (Cristo Fernández, TV’s Ted Lasso), who keeps bumping into them along the way.
This marks the feature debut for Mar Novo, a Mexican director now living and working in LA. Displaying moments of tenderness and sensitivity, the film is a promising career opener.
