A big number of filmmakers, film professionals and film enthusiasts gathered together for the Independent Filmmaker’s Ball on Wednesday April 18th at Cafè de Paris in London. People dressed in their pineapple-coconut shirts carried a networking night as the event celebrated 26 years of Raindance, which started in 1992. This event was well attended by celebrities, including Sinitta, Christian Brassington (Poldark), Niamh McGrady (The Fall), Jimmy Akingbola (In The Long Run), Chizzy Akudolu (Strictly) and Jeany Spark (Collateral) – check out our interviews here.
The Independent Filmmaker’s Ball was created 5 years ago as an opportunity for filmmakers to network, celebrate indie film together, and support independent cinema through the Independent Film Trust, a charity providing access to film training to those without the necessary means.
This year, £7000 worth of prizes were given out in a raffle in aid of the IFT. Prizes included a full day rental of shooting equipment from CineTruck, a 2-night stay in an Executive Suite at the Town Hall hotel, and 4 VIP cabaret tickets at Cafè de Paris.
London’s exclusive GIF photo booth hire company, Showtime Photo Booth, provided one of their sleek gif photo booths for our guests at this year’s Independent Filmmaker’s Ball. Eleonora joined the Raindance team as Marketing Manager in March 2018, after completing an internship there. She’s originally from Italy but she’s lived in New Zealand, Scotland, Canada and England (anywhere people drink tea). She happens to have two MAs in Film Studies because the Scottish university system is mysterious.
