Raindance’s new MA in Screenwriting is designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools to become a working screenwriter in the film and television industries. In this day and age, screenwriters need to be nimble and be able to adapt to the demands of the industry: you need to learn how to master the different forms, shorts, episodic content, the process adaptation of previously published materials, and feature films.
1.A focus on the screenwriting craft
Through the six modules of the programme, you will learn about how to generate ideas, story structure, short film, writing for television, the art of adaptation, and feature-length material. You will learn about the different forms that screenwriters need to know about, training you to be an agile writer ready to learn the skills writers need in today’s film and television industries, with tailored professional guidance and training that will develop and hone your craft skills for the film and TV industries.
2.A practical MA in Screenwriting
In accordance with the Raindance philosophy of learning through practice, you will have opportunities to collaborate with producers and directors both within and outside of the Raindance community to test and progress your writing at every stage of development, from the idea stage to the treatment and outline stages.
3.Build a portfolio of work
Through lectures and industry seminars taught by industry professionals, you will acquire the foundational craft skills that will enable you to produce a varied portfolio of work, from a calling-card short screenplay to an original feature screenplay or TV pilot, that you can put forward into the industry.
4.Focused on you
In addition to lectures and seminars dedicated to topics such as narratology, world-building, character development, and dialogue, you will receive instruction and mentorship from working screenwriting and filmmaking professionals to assist you with the development of your own film and TV projects.
5.Finding routes to employability
Through workshopping, pitching, story-lining, story editing, and negotiating sessions, you will be exposed to the rigours and realities of the life of the professional screenwriter, empowering you with a greater understanding of the career pathways available to you.
6.Industry focused
The MA in Screenwriting with Raindance provides training embedded in an industry setting. You will develop an unrivalled knowledge and understanding of the business of screenwriting from pitch presentations to the necessary legal knowledge and the commissioning process.
